Personalization Setup
Before Dalton can personalize your landing pages based on ad campaigns, you need to configure tracking parameters in your ad platform. This allows Dalton to identify which ad a visitor clicked on.
Google Ads Setup
For Google Ads, we recommend setting up a tracking template at the account level. This ensures all your ads automatically include the required parameters.
Steps:
- Go to your Google Ads account settings
- Navigate to Account Settings → Tracking
- Add the following tracking template (recommended to include all three parameters for future flexibility):
Recommended tracking template:
{lpurl}?campaign_id={campaignid}&adset_id={adgroupid}&creative_id={creative}TIP
Dalton automatically detects which parameters you use, so you can name them however you like. The parameter names shown above (campaign_id, adset_id, creative_id) are just examples. We recommend including all three parameters so you can switch personalization levels later without updating your tracking template.
Meta Ads (Facebook/Instagram) Setup
For Meta Ads, you need to add URL parameters in the tracking setup for each ad. Meta doesn't support account-level tracking templates like Google Ads.
Steps:
- When creating or editing an ad in Ads Manager
- Go to the Ad level (not Campaign or Ad Set)
- In the Website URL section, add all three parameters (recommended for future flexibility):
Recommended URL format:
https://yoursite.com/landing-page?campaign_id={{campaign.id}}&adset_id={{adset.id}}&creative_id={{ad.id}}TIP
Dalton automatically detects which parameters you use, so you can name them however you like. The parameter names shown above (campaign_id, adset_id, creative_id) are just examples. We recommend including all three parameters so you can switch personalization levels later without updating every ad.
Verifying Your Setup
After adding the tracking parameters:
- Go to your Dalton dashboard
- Navigate to your Page
- Dalton will automatically detect which ads have the correct tracking parameters
- Any ads missing the required parameters will be flagged
